Samsung unveiled the Galaxy XR in October. Positioned as a rival to Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest headsets, it marks the Korean technology giant’s return to the mixed-reality market.

Galaxy XR availability in France and other markets

The Galaxy XR is also the first product to run Android XR, Google’s platform developed for mixed-reality headsets and smart glasses. For now, however, the headset is sold only in South Korea, Samsung’s home market, and the United States.

That could change relatively soon. According to sources cited by Sammobile, Samsung is planning to release its headset in Germany, France, Canada and the United Kingdom in 2026. The list is reportedly not yet final, so further countries could be added by Samsung.

In the United States, the Galaxy XR costs $1,799, compared with $3,699 for Apple’s Vision Pro.

Samsung is already planning what comes next

Although the Galaxy XR has only just launched, Samsung is already looking beyond it. While the device delivers an immersive Android-based experience, it is not compact enough to wear every day. The Korean company is nevertheless preparing to enter the smart-glasses market. During the Galaxy XR presentation, it announced partnerships with the eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

Smart glasses are expected to gain momentum

This product category is expected to see demand rise sharply over the coming years. Meta, for instance, reported that its Ray-Ban Meta Display glasses had sold out just two days after their launch.

Meanwhile, rumours suggest that Apple has paused the redesign of its Vision Pro headset to focus on smart glasses. The Cupertino company’s first smart glasses could even be unveiled as early as next year.
