Google Pixel: public transport alerts are coming to At a Glance

Google has introduced a particularly useful feature for journeys between home and work. However, it is limited to Google Pixel devices and is not yet available in France.

Alongside its major annual releases, Google regularly rolls out smaller improvements to Android and its Google Pixel smartphones. This March, the company announced a “Pixel Drop”, a package of new features for its handsets. One addition enhances At a Glance, both on the Google Pixel home screen and lock screen.

At a Glance automatically presents information that is relevant and useful to the user. Following Google’s update, it can now also assist with daily commutes between home and the workplace. The feature is enabled in the phone settings: users must enter their home and work addresses in the Public Transport mode settings. Once switched on, the handset displays journey-related alerts, such as a notification that a train is delayed.

A Google support page also explains that the phone’s behaviour can be adjusted automatically while travelling on public transport. Under Settings > Modes > Public Transport, users can set a public-transport volume level, schedule Bluetooth to turn on or off, and manage notifications.

The feature is not yet available in France

Unfortunately, to receive public transport alerts through the At a Glance feature on Google Pixel, users will need a Google Pixel 7 or a newer model. In addition, the new feature has not yet been launched in France.
