Revolut has unveiled its first physical crypto card, featuring an LED display that lights up with every purchase. It is a clear strategic push from one of today’s most ambitious neobanks.

Few people saw it coming. Revolut, the UK neobank with 70 million customers worldwide, has announced the launch of its very first physical payment card dedicated to cryptocurrencies, choosing Dogecoin for its debut.

The company is clearly aiming to stand out: the new card includes an integrated LED display that illuminates whenever a contactless payment is made. It will nevertheless operate like a standard bank card and can be used wherever Visa and Mastercard are accepted - almost everywhere in the world.

It is expected to launch first in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area - including France, Belgium and Luxembourg - excluding Hungary, Switzerland and Portugal. However, Revolut says initial availability may be limited.

The neobank also states that no additional foreign-exchange fees will apply. There is an important caveat, however: every payment will be converted at the exchange rate in force when the transaction takes place. In other words, the amount charged may change in line with movements in the crypto market.

Revolut’s Dogecoin crypto card and its risks

Revolut is enjoying strong momentum, posting record results in 2025: $2.3 billion in profit on $6 billion in revenue, representing growth of 57% compared with the previous year. Last March, it also secured its UK banking licence, a major milestone after years of waiting. France is expected to follow soon, while a potential stock-market listing could be on the cards in the years ahead.

It is worth noting, though, that this crypto card does not come without risks. Revolut makes clear that every payment made using the card will be treated as a disposal of digital assets for tax purposes, potentially creating reporting and tax obligations depending on the country.

Cryptocurrencies also remain highly volatile assets and are not protected by the usual bank-deposit protection schemes.

Our analysis

The timing is no coincidence. The crypto card market is expanding noticeably, with daily transactions exceeding the 100,000 mark several times in recent weeks. This upward trend has been confirmed since last year, and the sector’s major players have taken note.

Crypto.com, Coinbase, Binance and Gemini have all stepped up their card offerings in recent months. These products are also becoming an increasingly strategic source of revenue. Revolut is therefore looking to establish itself quickly in a fast-growing market while broadening its range of services.
