Emirates has introduced a new travel insurance option that provides medical cover for incidents connected with international conflicts. The airline says it is the first policy in the aviation sector to give passengers this form of protection.
Created with Travel Guard, a Zurich Group company, the Comprehensive Travel Cover now includes support where an itinerary is affected by international conflict, including when governments have issued travel alerts or advisories.

In these circumstances, passengers may be rebooked onto flights to their final destination at no extra cost. This also covers connections operated by other airlines if Emirates services are unavailable.
The new protection is in addition to the travel insurance cover already available, including cancellation, delayed or lost baggage, general medical expenses and emergency evacuation.
For incidents associated with international conflicts, the policy offers reimbursement of medical expenses of up to US$25,000 and an extension of the trip for up to 30 days at no additional charge.
What changes for passengers
Alongside the insurance cover, Emirates said it will continue to provide operational assistance in the event of serious disruption, such as airspace closures.
In such cases, the airline may arrange accommodation and support for longer stays, as well as allowing travel changes without additional fees, in accordance with its current policies.
The company also continues to offer customers the option to hold a fare for up to 24 hours free of charge, alongside waived fees for date changes on tickets issued from 2 April.
According to Emirates Airline President Sir Tim Clark, the measure was introduced after the airline identified growing demand for broader protection mechanisms amid international instability.
He said the aim is to give greater certainty to passengers travelling to Dubai or using the emirate as a connecting point for other destinations.
Travel insurance is available in selected markets
The new cover can now be purchased while booking a ticket on the Emirates website or later through the booking management area.
For now, the product is available only to residents of selected markets. These include countries such as Germany, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Switzerland and South Africa, among others.
Even in markets where the insurance is not yet available, Emirates says it will continue to support passengers affected by conflict-related disruption, including help with accommodation, trip extensions and rebooking at no additional cost.
