One UI 9.0 beta testing starts only days after the final One UI 8.5 release

Samsung has unexpectedly confirmed the launch of its One UI 9.0 beta programme for the flagship Galaxy S26 series. The test build will become available this week, although, as with previous beta programmes, participation will be restricted to users in a small group of markets: South Korea, Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and India. Eligible owners will be able to enrol through the Samsung Members app.

One UI 9.0 features for the Galaxy S26 series

Built on Android 17, One UI 9.0 introduces new AI features alongside more flexible interface customisation. A major change is the redesigned Quick Panel, which can now be arranged with greater freedom. Users will have improved control over the placement of its controls, including the brightness setting.

Security improvements and wider rollout

Security is another key focus of One UI 9. Samsung has strengthened its protection against suspicious apps: the system will be able to identify potentially harmful software earlier and may even suggest removing it under updated security policies.

Additional models will join the testing programme over time. The stable One UI 9.0 release is expected in the second half of the year, most likely after Samsung unveils its new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. According to preliminary information, these devices will be the first Samsung models to ship with One UI 9.0 pre-installed.

The final One UI 8.5 update for the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S25 FE was released on 6 May.
